L: Good morning, Mr. Smith. Any good news?
S: Yes. I've succeeded in persuading our export manager to agree to a
reduction of 10 percent. He made this an exception with an eye to future
business.

李:史密期先生,早上好,有什么好消息吗?
史:有,我已经说服我们出口部经理同意降价10%。他着眼于将来业务,所以破
格降价。

L: Good. We certainly appreciate your close cooperation.
S: May I repeat: 15Tunnel Drillers, specifications as shown in the
technical data, at 57,000 Swiss Francs each, FOB European Main Ports.
Business is closed at this price.

李:好,我们十分赞赏你方紧密合作。
史:我再重复一下报盘:15台隧道钻机,规格详见技术资料,每台57000瑞士
法郎,FOB欧洲主要港口交货。交易就按此价敲定。

L: Yes, that's right. Shall we go over the other terms and conditions
of the transaction to see if we agree on all the particulars?
S: All right. We have no objection to the stipulations about the packing
and shipping marks. As a matter of fact, we always pack our machines in
new strong wooden cases suitable for long-distance ocean transportation.

李:行啦。我们逐项检查一下这笔交易的其它条款,好吗?看看有没有意见不
一致的地方?
史:好。我们同意关包装和装运唛头的条款。事实上我们机器包装都采用适合于
长途海洋运输的崭新扎实的木箱。

L: The machines must be well protected against dampness, moisture, rust,
and be able to stand shock and rough handling.
S: We'll see to that.

李:机器的包装必须防湿、防潮、防锈、防震,并经得起粗鲁的搬运。
史:我们会注意的。
L: They are to be shipped not later than September 1979.
S: There's no question about that.

李:装船期不能迟于1979年9月。
史:没有问题。

L: And about the terms of payment?
S: Payment by L/C, to be opened by the buyer 15to 20 days prior to the
date of delivery. That's what we've agreed upon, isn't it?

李:关于付款条件呢?
史:付款用信用证,在交货前15到20天期间由买方开出。这些我们都已同意了的,是不是?

L: Yes, quite so.
S: We'd like to add the condition that the letter of credit shall be valid
until the 15th day after shipment. You know, it sometimes takes us a week
or so to get all the shipping documents ready for presentation and negotiation.
This will give us more leeway.

李:是的,是这样。
史:我们希望加上一条:信用证有效期应至货物装船后15天截止。你知道,要把所有装
船单据都准备好,提交银行议付,有时需要一个星期左右。订这样一条可以给我们更多
的余地。

L: That can be done. Any questions about the inspection and claims?
S: None whatsoever. The quality and performance of our machines can stand
every possible test. We agree to your conditions.

李:行。关于商检和索赔有什么问题吗?
史:完全没有问题。我们机器经得起任何质量和性能方面的检验。我们同意你方条款。

L: Do you also agree to the condition that all disputes, if unsettled,
shall be referred to the Foreign Trade Arbitration Commission of the China
Council for the Promotion of International Trade?
S: Certainly, but I'm sure there will be no occasion for arbitration at all.

李:你是否也同意这么一条,所提索赔,解决不了的,就提交中国国际贸易促进会的
外贸仲裁委员会去仲裁?
史:可以,不过我相信根本没有必要进行仲裁。

L: Well, the, we've agreed on all the major points.
S: Yes, Mr. Li. We're glad the deal has come off nicely and hope there
will be more to come.

李:好吧,那么我们对于各个要点的意见都
史:是的,李先生。我们很高兴这项交易圆满成功,希望以后能达成更多的交易。

L: So long as we keep to the principle of equality and mutual benefit,
trade between our two countries will develop.

李:只要我们坚持平等互利的原则,我们两国之间的贸易一定会发展。

S: When can the contract be ready for signature?
L: I'll have it ready in a couple of days.

史:合同什么时候能签?
李:几天内我就会准备好的。

S: The earlier the better. I'm leaving next week.
L: H'OW ABOUT Monday afternoon at 5? I'll have a copy of the contract
sent to your hotel in the morning for you to look over.
S: That suits us fine.

史:越早越好,我下星期离开这里。
李:星期一下午五点怎么样?我把合同在上午送到你旅馆请你过目。
史:很好。
